ASGVEC Day 2 will open early!
If you were one of almost 1,000 people that tried to simultaneously log onto the Asian Sky Group Virtual Exhibition and Conference (ASGVEC) yesterday, then you will know that the experience did not live up to your, or our, expectations.
This was not an issue of software but rather a lack of capacity and speed in the servers, even though the event was being hosted on the best equipment (Amazon). The sheer number of people trying to get in over the course of five minutes caused the platform to slow down and become very laggy, which made navigating around the various venues and exhibition halls a challenge. We therefore made the decision to cancel the conference for the remainder of day one.
We certainly take the blame as we did not expect 1,000 people to try to enter at the same time. For those who have been to conferences or the NBAA or other trade shows, I am sure you appreciate that the entry process typically does not mean everyone shows up at the same time. If they did, in today’s world of vaccine passports and screening of people and handbags/briefcases, one thousand people all jostling to enter the Las Vegas Convention Center would also require some patience.
Despite this, most exhibitors remained till closing and we were told that at least one deal was done – a remarkable achievement for the first day of a brand-new event!
Overnight, the development team of Mytaverse, Epic Games, Amazon Web Services (AWS), PureWeb and Agora have been working hard to rectify the issues. The bugs have all been squashed, the system rebuilt, and a new version deployed already.
So this means Day Two of ASGVEC goes ahead as originally planned, but we will bring forward the opening time by an hour.
Exhibitors and Panelists will be able to access ASGVEC from 06:00 EST / 12:00 CET / 18:00 HKT.
General admission will be at 07:00 EST / 13:00 CET / 19:00 HKT.
PLEASE NOTE: The conference will resume with Day Two panels at the originally scheduled times – no change.
Thank you to everybody for all of the positive feedback and support from yesterday. It is truly appreciated. It was also amazing to see so many people hanging back after we canceled the conference, just getting together, renewing acquaintances, and taking the time to get more familiar with how to use the platform to its fullest.
We look forward to welcoming you back to ASGVEC later today.
