This is why it is now complimentary to attend ASGVEC

Ahh technology, blink for one second and there is another update to your phone, TV, games console or toaster.

That is exactly what has happened with ASGVEC. Or, to be more specific, what happened with the Mytaverse platform that will host the exhibition and conference. Right now, we are using version 2.1 of the Mytaverse software, but we have just been informed that towards the end of July (well in time for the start of ASGVEC) version 3.1 will be available.

This is a very exciting update for several reasons, some of which I have listed below. But before I get to those, I wanted to pass on the most exciting part of the update to you as quickly as possible.

Without getting too technical, in version 2.1 ASGVEC used Pixel Streaming. Whilst this had many advantages, the disadvantage was that ASG would be charged for every second that an attendee was on the ASGVEC platform. Pixel Streaming works exactly the same way as your phone contract: If you make a call, you are charged per minute that you are making the call.

However, the latest update to ASGVEC does not use Pixel Streaming as much as the previous version. This means that ASG will no longer be changed per user, per second.

This is amazing news, as there will no longer be a charge to attend ASGVEC. We will be contacting everybody that has registered so far to process a refund for them.

But that is not all that is changing with the new version – avatars have been upgraded as well! These have been redesigned to be more ‘humanoid’ in appearance, but we have also taken the redesign as an opportunity to work on how the webcam stream appears on the avatar itself. You can see from the image on the left that instead of appearing within the headspace of the avatar, the newest update projects the webcam image outwards, allowing for a much bigger image.

One of the other main new features in version 3.1 is the introduction of spatial audio. This means that the closer you are to somebody, the louder they will be. That might not sound too important, however, if you are in an exhibition hall with several hundred people, it means that you will only be able to hear the people you are actively having a conversation with, rather than getting a headache from hearing the voices of everybody else in the hall.

There are too many new features, updates and upgrades to be listed in full, but here is a quick shortlist of our favourites:

  • The UI for mobile devices has been upgraded for better navigation.

  • The Inventory System has been upgraded, making it easier for users to collect files such as videos, images and documents.

  • New users will now automatically be sent to Mytaverse’s new Navigation Tutorial in order to learn the basics before landing in the Lobby.

  • Users will automatically switch to the first person when turning on their webcams on

  • A new Login system that allows users to log in using existing accounts such as Google, Apple, Facebook and native Mytaverse.

  • Updated and polished animations have been introduced:

    • Take a seat/exit seat

    • Raise your hand / I have a question

    • Bow

  • A significantly faster loading experience has now been introduced, thanks to new server optimization.

  • Webcam and shared screen in meeting rooms with better resolution and clarity.

  • Ability to create groups inside the application, including voice channels.

  • A new feature has been added to give contact information to another user by sharing it in the chat system.

The ASGVEC website has now been updated for complimentary registration.

We look forward to welcoming you in September.
